US firm makes India regional hub

NEW DELHI - Leading global online travel search engine Mobissimo announced its foray into the Indian market and said it planned to make the country its operational hub for the Asia Pacific region.

"The growth that we have experienced from India in terms of the source of traffic has been phenomenal. It is second only to the

United States. On a monthly basis, we are experiencing 30% growth," Mobissimo co-founder and CEO Beatrice Tarka said while announcing the company's India launch.

"Going forward we see India as a key market and we plan to have our operational hub for the Asia Pacific region in India," company vice-president of strategy and operations Adam Meron said.

He said the company planned to have a physical presence in India by opening a marketing and customer relationship office.

"We may opt for Delhi as a location, as we see our business expanding in India we need to have people here," he said.

The US-based company has also tied up with low cost carrier SpiceJet and travel portal makemytrip.com as a part of its expansion plan in India.

"Our target is to become the number one travel search engine here by the end of the year," Tarka said.

She said the company, which has an average of about 600,000 hits per month globally, would be targeting equal revenues from advertisements and affiliate partners.

The company is also planning to launch mobile messaging service providing travel information, she added.
