Reliance, Intel in joint project

CHENNAI - Reliance Communications and Intel announced a joint program to offer Internet connectivity on Intel powered PCs.

At a press conference, Intel national sales manager Ashok Nair said users purchasing PCs from the 79 Genuine Intel Dealers (GIDs) in Tamil Nadu will be offered Intel PCs powered with Reliance wireless products complete with Internet connectivity.

Under this tie-up, Reliance wireless phones will be offered at a discounted price of Rs 1,200 (US$26) to people who buy PCs from the 79 GIDs. Users will get Rs 400 worth of Internet access free of charge for the first three months, a spokesman from Reliance Communications said.

These wireless phones will offer customers download speeds of 144 kbps, he added.

Nair said the quality of Internet connectivity in B and C cities was quite low. This tie-up would try to address the issue, he said.

The joint program has already been rolled out in Karnataka, and would be extended throughout the country in a phased manner, he said.
