Vietnam, China discuss transport cooperation

HANOI - Vietnamese and Chinese senior transport officials have discussed how to facilitate transport of passengers and goods between the two countries, including transport from China's Kunming to Vietnam's Hai Phong Port.

At a working session in Hanoi on September 11, Minister Dao Dinh Binh and his visiting Chinese counterpart Huang Zhendong talked about the construction of a new bridge spanning the Hong (Red) River in the border area between Lao Cai of Vietnam and He Kou of China, facilitating commercial transport on the 58-kilometer section of the Hong River along the common border.

They also discussed the implementation of agreements on sea transport and on the collection of transport taxes on ships and trains on the principle of equality and mutual benefits.

Huang briefed Binh on China's waterway and inland transport, especially highways. Huang said that the Chinese government had approved the construction of the highway from Nanning to Huu Nghi Quan (You Yi Guan), which will start later this year and will be completed in 2006.

He said that the Kunming-He Kou road will also be built in the coming years.
