Coal explorations begin in Indonesia

MUARA TEWEH - Five mining companies have begun coal explorations in Indonesia's North Barito district, Central Kalimantan province, head of the provincial mines and energy office, Asran, said here on Monday.

PT Bharinto Ekatama, which is managed by the Thai-based mining company BANPU, is exploring 22,000 hectares in the North Barito and West Kutai districts and is expected to start production in early 2006.

Meanwhile, PT Suprabari Mapanindo Mineral has obtained a license to explore 71,060 hectares of mining area in the Central Teweh district, Asran said.
