Bringing the Masters to Macau
Showcasing artistry in the integrated resort capital of the world
This October marks a seminal turning point for Macau. The region long known as the integrated resort capital of the world is metamorphosing into a center for technology and entrepreneurship while it hosts Start Up Macau. But these entrepreneurs aren’t the only creative minds on display. Edgar Degas – Figures in Motion, a major exhibition co-presented by Le French May and M.T. Abraham Foundation for the Visual Arts, supported by the French Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, and exclusively sponsored by MGM is now open. Boasting 74 posthumous bronze sculptures, this exhibition runs until November 20, 2016. Known as one of the founders of Impressionism and famous for his paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, the Degas show offers a dynamic juxtaposition of old master works and 21st century technology with interactive elements including a guided tour through the story of Degas’ work.
If classic Impressionism on display weren’t enough, MGM MACAU is also showcasing the world of U.S. based maestro of oversized visual display art, Stephen Stefanou.
Embellishing the Grande Praça with over 160 vibrant Monarch and Morpho butterflies Stefanou created from synthetic glass, these monolithic creatures hover above young Laurel trees and swivel among giant Datura blossoms, making it the perfect indoor garden for quality time and picture-perfect moments with family and friends.
With the vision to get visitors up close to the butterflies for a unique experience, Stefanou specially placed six large butterflies at a lower elevation, allowing an impeccable juxtaposition to the Aquarium in the heart of Grande Praça.
Art is an integral part of MGM MACAU’s spirit and it shines through every aspect from décor to personality. At the heart of the hotel is the Grande Praça, pulsating with an energetic ambience inspired by old-world Europe. Its north end modeled on Lisbon’s iconic central train station is a reflection of Macau’s Portuguese roots.
Embark on MGM MACAU’s Road to Art the moment you step inside the hotel. World-renowned artist Dale Chihuly’s delicate hand-blown glass flower Fiori di Paradiso Ceiling greets as you set foot in the Main Lobby. The first of its kind in Asia, it is echoed by Chihuly’s large wall painting Fiori di Paradiso Drawing Wall, set behind the reception desk. Stroll along the corridor adjacent to the lobby to admire the works of surrealism master Salvador Dali’s most recognizable and revered works at MGM MACAU.
In addition to the permanent collection shown throughout the hotel, MGM MACAU endeavors in bringing an amazing art and culture program while supporting and reinforcing Macau as a cultural and entertainment destination.
